Cephas

Cephas
The surname given to Peter the disciple by Jesus when his brother Andrew introduced him (John 1:42). In Aramaic the word means ‘rock’ and is therefore equivalent to the Greek ‘Peter’, which also means ‘rock’, as shown by Matt. 16:18. His original name was Simon.
